What is a Root Canal?
A Root Canal is a procedure that saves a tooth that would otherwise be un-restorable. When a tooth needs a root canal it can be for many different reasons. It always involves the nerve of the tooth. If the nerve of the tooth is infected it can cause a severe tooth ache. These type of tooth aches are usually described as throbbing pain that doesn’t go away and isn’t provoked by anything.
The procedure itself is usually painless. The doctor numbs the tooth, Goes through the tooth to access the nerve, cleans out the infected nerve and then fills the nerve canals with a filling material. Once the infected nerve is gone the pain usually is too.
