TMJ Gilbert, AZ
Many people suffer from TMJ pain but are unaware of why it happens or what it is caused from. Most TMJ sufferers experience pain in the jaw ears or face, pain or tension in the neck or shoulders, and or constant headaches. Typically, clenching and grinding teeth at night is the main reasoning for TMJ pain. The constant pressure of the jaw causes inflammation in the joints and can be so severe in some cases that the individual may experience “lock jaw”, the jaw is literally locked in an open or closed position due to the inflammation. Most dentists first recommend an occlussal guard to be worn at night to help separate the teeth and create some relaxation of the jaw muscles. However, some individuals may benefit greater by seeing a TMJ specialist. Please give Power Ranch Dental a call if you have any other questions!
