Types of Braces Gilbert, AZ

Types of Braces Gilbert, AZ

Braces from about 30 years ago include large metal bands that were enclosed and cemented around each tooth. Braces can be attached to the cheek side of teeth as well as the tongue side of teeth depending on what your orthodontist recommends to you for treatment. Braces, arch wires and bands can be colorful and a lot of fun for children, adolescents and teens to pick from.

Today, tiny brackets are place on the front of the tooth and are made of metal or ceramic. They are bonded onto the front of the tooth with a glue-like material and metal bands are used on the back of the teeth. Arch wires are then places inside the brackets and are made of heat-activated metal source that can become warm inside the mouth and allows for constant pressure on the teeth. These arch wires can be adjusted at the orthodontic office.

A newer alternative to braces is Invisalign. This uses a series of clear, removable aligners that are worn during the day and night to help in moving teeth into the correct alignment. When eating and flossing, the aligners may be removed.
