What Steps are involved in an Implant?
Implants are the best alternative available for tooth replacement. There are three basic steps to a dental implant. First, the implant is submerged into the jaw bone and allowed to integrate into the bone. After the implant is placed it can take 4-6 months to heal completely. Second step, an attachment is inserted into the hollow implant cylinder and rises above the gum line. The Third step would be a crown, bridge or denture is cemented onto the attachment.
Every Implant is different. In some cases Sinus lifts and bone grafts are necessary. Some cases the dentist can perform all three steps. Other cases could be a specialist placing the implant and your general dentist inserting the attachment and fitting the crown, bridge or denture.
